Seven out of ten Ghanaians express extreme concern over soaring food prices and the rising cost of living, reveals a new survey by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).
Released via press statement on February 11, 2026, the nationwide poll shows 71% of respondents deeply worried about the cost of food and other consumer goods.
Conducted in December 2025 with over 1,000 participants from all regions, the survey gauged public views on President John Mahama’s performance amid socioeconomic pressures like food costs, consumer goods prices, and unemployment.
Unemployment topped the list of national issues, cited by 46% of respondents as the biggest challenge. Illegal mining, or galamsey, ranked second at 30%.
On the president’s performance, 68% approved, 22% disapproved, and 10% had no opinion.
The IEA notes that while approval for Mahama remains strong, widespread anxieties over living costs, joblessness, and galamsey signal ongoing hurdles. Sustained action is essential to tackle these concerns and build broader public trust.
