I won’t hit back at Hon Amoako Atta, he is like a father figure – Hon Agbodza.

Mp for Adaklu and ranking member Roads and Transport Committee, Hon Governs Kwame Agbodza has reacted to the Roads Minister, Hon Kwasi Amoako Atta’s intended plans to convert over 38 dormant tollbooths dotted across the country.

During a telephone interview on Wednesday with Citizen Kofi Owusu, the NDC lawmaker stated that the minister had it all wrong when he asserted that existing toll booths would possibly converted into washrooms. He explain that a document available to the committee revealed a staggering ¢ 4 million to construct new tollbooths to the existing ones.

Hon. Agbodza wonders the rationale behind the minister’s statement which is captured on tape when he addressed a section of the media couple days ago.

Background:

Government closed all toll access in the country after the presentation of the 2022 budget statement and economic outlook by the finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta in the last quarter of 2021.

The MP for Atiwa west, who doubles as the Roads minister, directed all toll operators to vacate their post through a statement issued. After incessant threats and backlash from the public the speak of Parliament Right Hon Alban Sumana Bagbin called on the transport minister to open the tolls to traffic and allow the toll operators to retired to their post. A move which have fallen to death ears, in spite of the agitations by workers of toll booths that besiege the precinct of Parliament house months ago.

However, the latest twist by government to substitute tollbooths to lavatories has occasioned widespread debates. Some governance experts have not taking it lightly with government as they have expressed disappointment over the new preposition by the MP cum minister.

The Adaklu legislature fumed on the pronouncement by the roads minister, and said though Hon Amoako Atta refuted to give verifiable details to the statement posed to him on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday.

Hon Amoako Atta expressed dissatisfaction by submissions made by the ranking member on the roads committee for presenting a document he claimed does not correspond to official communiqué which is available to the Ministry of roads.

The MP in a rebuttal said he is unfazed by the parliamentary comments used against him over the raging tollbooths discourse by the Minister.

The controversial e levy is expected amongst other things to give much needed resources to augment monies supposed to be generated from the toll booths operations.
