I won’t condone harassment of journalists – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama, has strongly condemned the harassment of journalists and promised to protect press freedom should he be elected as president in the upcoming elections.

He expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of harassment against journalists in the country in recent times.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Sunday, Mr Mahama indicated that free press was the cornerstone of a democratic society and that harassment of journalists was an attack on democracy.

He therefore pledged to liaise with stakeholders to ensure an end to such harassment.

“I am not going to condone or conjure to harass journalists when they do the work that they have been mandated to do,” he stated.

He added “We are going to sit together and work on the laws” that need amendments to help the work of journalists.
