Ghanaian media personality Bridget Otoo. She recently mentioned that she wouldn’t vote for former President John Dramani Mahama if he agrees to debate the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Bridget Otoo believes that giving Dr Bawumia a platform for a debate would draw attention and publicity that he doesn’t deserve.
She suggested that if the NPP wants a debate for their flagbearer, they should organize one between him and flagbearers from other parties, but not the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She also mentioned that the current president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, didn’t participate in a presidential debate and still managed to become president.
This is quite thought-provoking as presidential debates have become a part of the electoral process in Ghana, aiming to allow presidential aspirants to communicate their policy intentions to voters and have the feasibility of their manifestos questioned.
