I will promote gender equality and increase women’s representation in politics – John Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a firm pledge to ensure the passage and implementation of the long-awaited Affirmative Action Bill if he is elected president in the upcoming elections.

Speaking passionately at the launch of the party’s Women’s Manifesto in Kumasi, Mahama reiterated his commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women across all sectors of society.

He emphasized that the Affirmative Action Bill, which has been in the works for years, will be a priority under his administration.

According to the former president, this bill is crucial in addressing the underrepresentation of women in key decision-making roles, both in government and the private sector.

Mahama further stated that the NDC is determined to create a more inclusive political landscape by increasing the participation of women in politics, leadership, and governance.

He highlighted the importance of women’s voices in shaping national policies and noted that gender equality is not only a matter of fairness but also a key driver of social and economic development.

“Women form the backbone of our nation, and their contribution to our progress cannot be overlooked.

It is time we take decisive steps to break the barriers that prevent them from fully participating in the political process,” Mahama declared.

He assured Ghanaians that the NDC’s agenda would focus on creating equal opportunities for women, ensuring that they are represented at all levels of governance, from the local assemblies to the highest offices of the land.

The launch of the Women’s Manifesto, which outlines specific policies aimed at empowering women, further solidified the NDC’s stance on gender equality.

Mahama promised that under his leadership, the party would prioritize policies that enhance women’s access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and leadership roles.

He also committed to working closely with women’s advocacy groups and civil society organizations to ensure that the Affirmative Action Bill reflects the needs and aspirations of Ghanaian women.

In conclusion, Mahama called on Ghanaians to rally behind the NDC’s vision of a more equitable society, where women are given the platform to contribute fully to national development.

He reaffirmed that the implementation of the Affirmative Action Bill would be a key milestone in achieving gender parity and empowering future generations of women to rise to positions of leadership.
