“I was never gonna resign for a decision made by La Liga”- Barça president Laporta

FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has said was not going to step down after La Liga rejected the registration duo Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the round of the season due to economic situation of the club.

His comments come after Barcelona thrashed 5-2 Real Madrid to the 2025 Super Cup in Saudi Arabia on Sunday A court rejected their attempt to re-register Olmo last week, with La Liga and the Spanish Federation coming to a joint decision over the situation.

A growing pressure mounted on the president as come circles within club called for his resignation  amid Olmo saga. Chief of the group was former Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font who demanded answers from Laporta and his Board, while fan group “Som un clam” have called for the president to step down due to the saga.

A lengthy letter that details a growing “list of grievances” which are “causing irreparable material, economic and social damage and a point, surely, of no return requested for the board to step down or face a vote of no confidence.

But reacting to the to the Super Cup win, Laporta said: “I was never gonna resign for a decision made by La Liga and the Federation”. “We don’t give up, but they tried to destabilize the club, the players and the manager. We reacted, we won the Super Cup and I really value that”.

Laporta also said the club has been restored to 1:1 rule and can conduct some activities in the transfer market and gave a hint of imminent return to the new Sportify Camp Nou.
“We are finally back to the 1:1 rule, we can now sign players with normal process”. “We can now be able to register players like Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, and we will have our new stadium soon”, he said.

Barcelona, in third position, will now shift attention to the La Liga where there playing catch up to league leaders Atletico Marid as they face Getafe away but they will have to bargain with Real Betis in Copa del Rey Round of 16 on Wednesday, Jan 15. 2025.
