 ‘I regretted following a fool’ – Ponobiom on his beef with Shatta Wale

Ashiaman-based Rapper, Ponobiom, formerly known as Yaa Pono, says he regrets engaging in a lyrical fight with Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale.

It was reported in early 2017, that Shatta Wale had prevented Ponobiom from performing at an event at Cape Coast Stadium, which had the former as the headlining act.

Ponobiom indicated in an interview that the action of the dancehall act may have been because Shatta was fearful he would steal the show because most of his fans in Cape Coast.

Ponobiom had asked that Shatta should work with him to revive what was described as a dying music industry at the time.

However, Shatta Wale sees Ponobiom as an underground musician who didn’t deserve his hype and time. He, therefore, failed the request in a Twitter post and also said some unpleasant things about Ponobiom.

This resulted in Ponobiom releasing the first diss song in their lyrical battle, Noko.

Reacting to the incident years after their battle, Ponobiom in an interview said, ‘I wish I didn’t follow a fool.’

He said in an interview that one of his biggest regrets in his career as a musician was to have engaged in a public beef with Shatta Wale. To him, the dancehall act didn’t merit the battle between them.

He added that if he could turn back the hands of time, he would have ignored Shatta Wale.
