“I Never Stopped Believing” – Yemi Alade Reflects on Her Grammy Nomination

Nigerian music icon Yemi Alade is celebrating her first-ever Grammy nomination, attributing the milestone to her unwavering self-belief and resilience.

After more than a decade in the Nigerian music industry, Alade secured a nomination at the 67th Grammy Awards for Best African Music Performance, standing alongside other Nigerian superstars.

Sharing her excitement, she wrote:

“I’m a winner. I’m here because I never stopped believing. Even when doubts and naysayers counted me out, I always COUNTED MYSELF IN and surrounded myself with uplifters and truth tellers (not yes men).”

She further encouraged fans, saying:
“Na who stop, e go stop for. Don’t stop dreaming—NOBODY KNOWS TOMORROW. Thank you to my Grammy Glam Team.”
Her nomination, which took many by surprise, reaffirms her commitment to making music that embodies the richness of traditional African sounds.

Since rising to fame with her 2013 hit Johnny, Yemi Alade has built a legacy as one of Nigeria’s most dynamic performers and a key figure in expanding African music collaborations worldwide. Over the years, she has earned numerous accolades, including Best Female Artist at the 2014 and 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs).

A decade after her debut album, she secured her first Grammy nomination for her song Tomorrow. Although the award ultimately went to international sensation Tems, Alade’s recognition at the Grammys marks a significant milestone in her career.

At the ceremony, she paid homage to her roots by wearing a stunning beaded dress inspired by Edo culture.

Her fashion choice received widespread praise, with many applauding her for proudly representing Nigerian heritage on the global stage.
