I know my government will not have it easy when elected to government from 2025 – John Mahama.

Former president and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has acknowledged the significant challenges that his government would face if he is given the mandate to lead the country after the December 7 elections.

Speaking to the media, Mahama highlighted the financial strain that the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has placed on the nation through excessive borrowing, more than any previous government in Ghana’s history.

He expressed regret that the borrowed funds were not used effectively, particularly on improving the road network, which could have mitigated the country’s current economic difficulties.

Mahama emphasized that the next government will inherit a “big mess” and will face a tough time in managing the country’s resources.

However, he noted that with proper prioritization, there are some immediate actions his administration could take to provide relief for Ghanaians in the short term, while addressing broader challenges over the long term.

One of his key strategies, Mahama stated, would be to continue the many abandoned projects that have been left unfinished by the current government. He stressed that Ghanaians deserve to benefit from the taxes they pay, and completing these projects is crucial for national development.

He also criticized the NPP’s “Agenda 111” project to build new hospitals, pointing out that despite the lack of funds, the government initiated the project knowing it would be unable to complete even ten hospitals before leaving office.

Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that healthcare infrastructure, including the unfinished “Agenda 111” hospitals, will be completed under his leadership, as he believes that “health is wealth.”
