“I Had to Look Up the Dress Code for Married Women” – Kiekie on Outdated

Content creator and actress Kiekie has spoken candidly about the unsolicited opinions and societal pressures she’s faced since becoming a wife and mother. During a recent episode of the I Said What I Said podcast, the media personality shared how people often criticize her appearance, claiming she doesn’t “dress like a married woman.”

“I started seeing comments from people saying I don’t dress like a married woman. I literally had to Google the dress code for married women and found nothing. No one has ever clearly defined how a married woman is supposed to dress,” she said, expressing her confusion and frustration.

Kiekie also touched on the judgment mothers face when they are seen outside without their children.

“I’ve noticed that anytime you step out after having a child, the first thing people ask is, ‘Where’s your child?’ I could be at a club at 1am—why would my child be there? Are you trying to guilt-trip me? It doesn’t make sense.”

She went on to highlight the subtle jabs she receives even when people are trying to compliment her success.

“One that really gets to me is when people say things like, ‘You have a husband who can help you,’ as if that’s the only reason I’m doing well. They think just because I’m married, I shouldn’t have struggles. If I want to achieve something, I can meet my husband? That logic is flawed. I’m the one chasing my dreams—he’s not a backup plan.”

Kiekie concluded by emphasizing the need for a shift in mindset—especially among women.

“We have a long way to go. Women themselves need to be reoriented. We can’t expect change to only come from men—it has to start with us.”

Let me know if you want it trimmed down or made more informal.
