The Presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Edward Nasigre Mahama has blamed the abysmal performance of his party in the just-ended general elections on electoral irregularities after failing to register a single vote at the polling station where his pastor voted.
Dr Mahama in an interview on Joy FM also attributed his poor performance to his initial disqualification by the Electoral Commission.
He said his campaign was unable to recover from that set-back despite being re-instated by the EC after correcting errors on his Presidential nomination forms.According to the PNC candidate, the EC contributed to his failure to garner less than one percent of the votes cast in his fifth attempt for the Presidency.
He said, “With regards to my personal situation, when I talked about the inequality of the playing field at the beginning of the elections I wasn’t making an excuse.”The disqualification took six weeks away from my campaign and also the disqualification made it impossible for me to raise money, also while I was respecting the EC and the judiciary by not campaigning I lost time.
“Even my party people got angry with me for not campaigning and i said, I have gone to court, i am respecting the court, I am respecting the EC. Because as i said I was monitoring situations, my own votes, the votes of the other contestants so the fact that John Mahama conceded defeat and didn’t follow those in his camp who were saying they have won showed maturity.
“I on my part, where my pastor voted I got zero in this election, I am sure those so-called spoilt ballots, a lot of it will have my votes there”.
