Nigerian gospel music powerhouse Sinach has opened up about her journey through marriage, delayed motherhood and the importance of refusing to put her life on hold while waiting for a child.
Sinach, whose real name is Osinachi Kalu Okoro, married her husband, Pastor Joseph Egbu, in 2014 at the age of 41. At the time, she had already established herself as one of Nigeria’s celebrated gospel musicians, but like many married women, she soon began facing questions about when she would have a child.
According to Sinach, five years passed without a child.
However, she said she deliberately refused to allow the waiting period to steal her joy or define her identity.
During those years, the award-winning gospel singer continued to minister, write music and worship God with the same passion. She explained that she chose not to suspend her life simply because she was waiting for motherhood.
Sinach also revealed that she and her husband used the period to strengthen their marriage, deepen their faith and trust God’s timing, even when the wait felt long.
Her testimony eventually changed in November 2019 when, at the age of 46, she welcomed her daughter, Rhoda.
She explained that the name Rhoda, meaning “rose,” represented joy and the unexpected blessing that came after years of waiting.
For Sinach, the experience became more than just a story about becoming a mother. It was also a lesson in maintaining purpose, joy and faith despite circumstances.
Her story continues to resonate with women who face societal pressure over marriage and childbirth, serving as a reminder that a person’s worth and purpose should not be defined solely by motherhood.
Sinach’s journey has also highlighted the emotional reality of waiting while encouraging people not to put their dreams, careers, happiness or purpose on hold because one aspect of their lives has not yet happened.
