I Channeled the Pain – Dunsin Oyekan on Coping Six Years After Wife’s Death

Nigerian gospel singer Dunsin Oyekan has reflected on his emotional and spiritual journey, six years after the death of his wife, Adedoyin Oyekan.

Adedoyin passed away on May 18, 2019. While the family has kept the circumstances surrounding her death private, her loss left a deep void in the lives of Oyekan and their two children.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the worship leader shared how he has coped with the pain by leaning into his faith and using worship as a channel for healing.

“Most people wondered how I survived. I didn’t numb the pain, I channeled it! I found closure in the Presence of God, understood from God’s perspective, accepted His sovereignty and found joy in His presence!” he wrote.

He added, “That’s the path of Life… 6 years after, with tears of joy, all I still have to say is GOD IS GOOD!”

Dunsin and Adedoyin were married in February 2013, and their marriage was blessed with two children before her untimely passing.

A gifted musician from childhood, Oyekan began singing and playing the guitar at the age of 10. Over the years, he has grown into one of Nigeria’s most respected gospel ministers, with over thirty songs to his name.

He also served as the former music director of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) choir and has released several impactful albums, including Kingdom Now (2019), The Gospel of the Kingdom (2021), The Glory Experience (2022), and most recently, The Great Commission (2024).
