“I am not hiding the budget for Black Stars”- Sports Minister, Kofi Adams

Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has addressed public unease over the undisclosed budget for the Black Stars’ recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

The choice to keep financial details under wraps has sparked controversy, particularly given President John Mahama’s push for openness in national team funding.

“I am not hiding the budget for Black Stars, you will know it when the time is right, we have next assignments coming up.” He told Channel One TV.

The Black Stars delivered impressive wins, thrashing Chad 5-0 in Accra on March 21 and Madagascar 3-0 in Morocco on March 24, securing Ghana’s lead in Group I with 15 points. Yet, the delay in revealing the budget has drawn backlash from analysts and supporters alike who argue transparency is vital for public confidence.

President Mahama, during his State of the Nation Address in February stressed that taxpayers deserve access to national team budgets and must not remain in secrecy.

With the Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports reportedly urging Adams to update the media, his assurances come as Ghana prepares for upcoming qualifiers against Chad and Mali in September.
