Maame Efua Houadjeto, the newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has expressed her determination to enhance the country’s tourism sector.
During her appearance on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on Saturday, Maame Efua shared her confidence in her ability to lead the industry forward, emphasizing that she was the right person for the role.
When asked about the pressure of succeeding Akwasi Agyeman, the former GTA CEO, she acknowledged the challenge but also highlighted that Agyeman’s rise to prominence wasn’t without its own initial hurdles.
“It definitely does. But the truth is, before Akwasi Agyeman took on the role, not many knew him. He was a quiet individual working at Happy FM with ties to Global Media Alliance. I knew him from a project we worked on for Ghana @ 50,” she explained.
“He was a modest man until he stepped into the spotlight. It took time for him to settle, but eventually, he worked wonders,” she continued.
Maame Efua believes that her background in marketing and her experience in the tourism sector will enable her to build upon Agyeman’s achievements at the GTA.
“I think his background in marketing and events played a huge role in his success. I pray I can do the same, or even more, because we share similar professional experiences,” she said.
With a background spanning journalism, events, marketing, and hospitality, Maame Efua also runs a company specializing in cruise tourism.
She also acknowledged the ongoing support from Akwasi Agyeman since she took over the leadership of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
