Tema, Ghana, 6 December: Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his bold decision to reduce the number of ministers, describing the move as a major cost-saving measure for the state.
According to Mr. Koomson, despite operating with a significantly leaner government, President Mahama continues to govern effectively, demonstrating strong leadership and a commitment to efficiency.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, December 6, Mr. Koomson said the reduction in ministerial appointments is a strategic step that will free up more resources for productive national development initiatives.
He urged all government appointees especially MMDCEs, departmental heads, and agency leaders to work diligently in support of the President, noting that the reduced size of government means additional responsibilities are now concentrated at the top.
“The workload on the President has increased, so all MCEs, DCEs, departmental heads, and every branch of government must ensure they perform their duties effectively,” he said.
Mr. Koomson also expressed admiration for the President’s ability to keep the government running smoothly despite the lean structure, adding that the decision has brought significant financial savings to the country.
“Looking at the reduction in ministers, I am even wondering how he is coping. In fact, he has saved the state a lot of money,” he stated.
The GFL Secretary General reiterated that President Mahama’s approach reflects responsible governance and a renewed focus on prudent public spending.
