Hope Seed Foundation Ghana, a registered non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs and their caregivers across Africa, has been officially launched at the conference hall of Mission Clinic in Accra.
The foundation aims to promote inclusion, tackle social stigma and mobilise resources to improve the lives of children and other individuals with special needs, while providing practical support to the families and caregivers who look after them.
Although the organisation had begun operations before the ceremony, the launch was organised to formally introduce its mission and activities to the public and encourage individuals, corporate organisations and development partners to support its work.
The initiative grew out of the shared experiences of parents, caregivers, professionals and advocates who recognised the need for a coordinated response to the challenges faced by individuals with special needs and their families.
Through crowdfunding, public education, partnerships and improved access to appropriate care, the foundation seeks to help affected individuals live with dignity and realise their full potential.
Dr Mrs Tymi outlines foundation’s vision
In an address delivered on behalf of the Board Chair, Mr Rufi Osafor Sante, Dr Mrs Tymi said the foundation was established on the belief that everyone, regardless of their abilities or challenges, deserves recognition, support and the opportunity to thrive.
She highlighted several challenges facing individuals with special needs and their caregivers across Africa, including limited access to appropriate care, inadequate support systems, financial constraints and insufficient public awareness.
She stressed that behind every diagnosis is a family, and behind every child is a future filled with possibilities.
According to the address, the foundation seeks to contribute to an Africa where individuals with special needs are represented in reliable data, have access to appropriate care and receive support from informed communities, committed partners and responsive public policies.
Its work, she explained, will extend beyond awareness creation to practical assistance through transparent crowdfunding, case management, clinical pathways, referrals and the development of a comprehensive registry of individuals with special needs and specialised care centres.
Crowdfunding platform to mobilise support
A key component of the foundation’s work is its customised crowdfunding platform, which connects children and families in need of assistance with individuals and organisations willing to contribute towards their needs.
The online platform, www.hopeseedgh.com, was already active at the time of the launch, with profiles of children requiring support available for public viewing.
The foundation said its donation facility was operational, allowing members of the public to contribute towards improving the lives of the children featured on the platform.
The initiative is intended to make it easier to mobilise donations and other essential support for families whose needs might otherwise go unnoticed beyond their immediate communities.
The organisation also emphasised the importance of transparency and careful case management to help ensure that assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries.
Promoting inclusion and tackling social stigma
Hope Seed Foundation Ghana is committed to raising public awareness about special needs and challenging the stigma that can prevent affected individuals from participating fully in their communities.
Through advocacy and community engagement, the organisation hopes to promote greater understanding, acceptance and inclusion.
Its vision is to help build communities where individuals with special needs are treated with dignity and have opportunities to learn, develop, participate in society and access appropriate healthcare and other essential services.
The foundation maintains that inclusion should not be treated as a privilege but as a reality for everyone, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.
Building a cross-continental database
Another key objective is to develop a comprehensive database mapping individuals with special needs alongside specialised care centres, schools and healthcare providers across Africa.
The proposed database is expected to improve information sharing, strengthen links between families and service providers, and make it easier to identify available support services.
By building a network of caregivers, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, development partners and advocacy groups, the foundation hopes to contribute to a more coordinated response to the needs of individuals with special needs across the continent.
The initiative also seeks to encourage evidence-based advocacy and inform policies aimed at improving access to care and support.
Caregivers also need support
The foundation recognises that caring for individuals with special needs can place considerable emotional, financial and practical demands on families, many of whom have limited access to assistance.
It has therefore extended its mission to supporting caregivers, who often shoulder significant responsibilities while navigating these challenges.
Hope Seed Foundation Ghana is calling on corporate organisations, healthcare professionals, development partners, policymakers, civil society organisations and the general public to support its work through donations, professional expertise, partnerships, referrals and advocacy.
The organisation believes collective action will be essential to expanding its reach and ensuring that more families benefit from its interventions.
Public urged to support the initiative
As part of its call to action, the foundation has encouraged the public to visit its website, learn about the children featured on the platform and contribute towards supporting those in need.
It said the official launch marked an important step towards turning awareness into practical assistance and building a future in which no individual with special needs is overlooked and no caregiver feels abandoned.
Through resource mobilisation and stronger community networks, Hope Seed Foundation Ghana hopes to improve access to care, education, inclusion and opportunities for individuals with special needs.
