The National Democratic Congress’ member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has jumped to the defense of his opponent of the New Patriotic Party, Manaf Ibrahim Mubarak was reportedly attempted to join the queue in the morning hours of voting day at the Akurem Polling Station.
Chaos erupts at Asawase after Manaf Ibrahim refused to jump queue to vote ensued among voters when Ibrahim Mubarak tried to join the queue even though he has the privilege to vote directly without having to be in queue with the general electorates at the Polling Station.
However, Muntaka remarks that the decision of his opponent is only problematic only if he joined to influence voters or campaign for votes which is prohibited by the electoral rules of the country.
“I see no issue with the NPP PC joining queue to vote; I hope he does not campaign while in the queue”-Muntaka Mubarak
“So if he decided to disregard that courtesy and join the queue, I pray that whiles in the queue he was not influencing people or talking to people to vote for him or campaigning. Other than that, I dont see anything wrong with that”, he told the media.
The Asawase Constituency is one of the electoral hotspots in the Ashanti region. Alhaji Muntaka however appealed for those who had not come to vote to come out to exercise their franchise before 5:00pm. He said this after he had finished casting his vote earlier today.
