Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo officially took over as the Greater Accra Regional Minister. She said this in an induction speech read to a gathering of officials, staff, and the media, as part of her aim to operate what she called an open-door policy.
She emphasized a few priority areas, including:Strengthening Local Governance: She intends to increase decentralization through collaboration with traditional authorities and local actors. This move will empower MMDAs to increase revenue and achieve sustainable development.
Sanitation and Waste Management: This is the integrated sanitation policy, which shall be rolled out to actualize the “Clean Up Ghana” campaign of the National Democratic Congress. This shall involve waste segregation, reintroduction of the National Sanitation Day, and the participation of communities in the maintenance of cleanliness.
Public Safety and Security: Hon Linda Akweley Ocloo, while the chair of the Regional Security Council, would be involved in securing the people through security agencies. This is in regard to improvement in street lighting and bettering the conditions of pedestrian crossing.
Economic Development: She said she wants to foster economic development at the local level by empowering women entrepreneurs by involving other government departments; she would, however, arrange trade fairs to boost different sectors.
She finally concluded by appealing to the citizens, civil society organizations, and the private sector for unity in their quest for excellence in governance and service delivery. She was confident that together, they could
transform Greater Accra into a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous region for all its inhabitants.
