Highlife Star Kwabena Kwabena Enters UPSA SRC Presidential Race

 

Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena is stepping into student leadership, as he officially declares his intention to run for the presidency of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

According to his manager, Nana Poku Ashis, the award-winning singer—currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree at UPSA—will contest in the upcoming SRC elections scheduled for May 30, 2025.

Born George Kwabena Adu, Kwabena Kwabena rose to fame in the early 2000s with hit songs like Asor and Aso, earning a reputation for blending soulful vocals with authentic Ghanaian highlife rhythms. Over the years, he has released multiple acclaimed albums and won several awards, becoming one of the most respected voices in contemporary Ghanaian music.

An alumnus of St. Peter’s Secondary School and Accra Polytechnic (now Accra Technical University), where he earned a Higher National Diploma (HND), Kwabena Kwabena now joins a growing number of musicians transitioning into student politics. Notable names who have pursued similar paths include Samini (GIMPA), Guru (University of Ghana), and Dr. Cryme (Methodist University).

Beyond politics, Kwabena Kwabena continues to pursue his passion for music. Earlier this month, he released a new EP titled God of Restoration, featuring songs such as Fakye, A Friend, Adom, 3nso Nyame Y3, Apostolic Hymn 136, and a live version of Bue Kwan.
