Hearts of Oak Suffer 2-0 Away Defeat to Karela United in Tamale

Accra Hearts of Oak’s difficult 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season took another turn for the worse on Sunday as they fell 2-0 to Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale in matchweek 13.

The Phobians, still reeling from a shock midweek elimination from the MTN FA Cup at the hands of Division Two side True Life FC, were unable to respond positively on the road and suffered their first away defeat of the campaign.

Karela striker Eric Antwi Konadu proved the difference between the two sides, scoring both goals in a devastating first-half display.

The opener arrived in the 19th minute when Hearts’ defence failed to clear their lines from a Karela attack. The ball was swung into the danger area and Konadu rose highest to plant a firm header past goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi.

Hearts never recovered from that setback, and just before half-time, in the 44th minute, defensive lapses struck again. Konadu was inexplicably left completely unmarked inside the six-yard box and calmly side-footed home Karela’s second goal of the afternoon, leaving head coach Didi Dramani stunned on the sidelines.

Despite some second-half pressure, Hearts failed to find a way back into the contest and have now scored just once in their last four Premier League matches.

The result lifts Karela United to 8th place on the table with 19 points and extends their unbeaten run to three league games (two wins, one draw). For Hearts, the defeat leaves them stuck in 7th position with 21 points from 13 matches and piles more pressure on the technical team and playing body.

Tough December Fixtures Await the Rainbow Boys

Hearts of Oak face a demanding December schedule that could define their season:

– Next weekend: Nations FC (Home – University of Ghana Stadium, Legon)
– Mid-December: Aduana Stars (Away – Nana Agyemang Badu Park, Dormaa)
– End of year: FC Samartex 1996 (Home – likely Accra Sports Stadium)

With only one goal scored in their last four top-flight games and confidence dented by back-to-back cup and league setbacks, the Phobians will need a rapid turnaround if they are to end 2025 on a positive note and keep their faint title aspirations alive.

Fans will be hoping the Continental Club Masters can rediscover their scoring touch and defensive solidity before the festive fixtures pile on even more pressure.
