Hearts of Oak Face Stadium Access Threat Over Alleged GHS11,000 Debt to University of Ghana

Accra Hearts of Oak are currently facing uncertainty over their upcoming home match against Dreams FC in Matchday 19 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, scheduled for Friday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium commonly referred to as Legon Stadium.

Recent widespread reports have suggested that university authorities might deny the club access to the venue due to an alleged outstanding debt of GHS11,000. This claimed amount reportedly stems from usage fees for matches and training sessions at the facility dating back to between 2016 and 2018.

In response, the club’s Communications Director (PRO), Kwame Opare Addo, has firmly pushed back against these claims. He has stated on record that Hearts of Oak does not owe any outstanding debt to the University of Ghana for the use of the stadium, insisting that all previous financial obligations have been fully settled.

Despite this position, the club has taken proactive steps by engaging its financial department to conduct a thorough reconciliation and verification process regarding the alleged amount. Opare Addo has emphasized that, regardless of the outcome of this review, Hearts of Oak will do everything possible to resolve the matter amicably and ensure the game proceeds as planned at the Legon venue before kick-off.

The Phobians have adopted the University of Ghana Sports Stadium as their primary home ground since relocating there in November 2025, following their decision to move away from the Accra Sports Stadium.

They currently sit fifth on the Ghana Premier League log and have shown strong form at this venue in their recent home games, having won their last several matches there without conceding, which has boosted their push for a higher position in the standings.

The club remains confident that ongoing discussions with the university authorities will lead to a positive resolution, allowing the highly anticipated fixture against Dreams FC—set to kick off at 15:30 GMT—to take place at their established home without further disruption.
