Hearts of Oak avoid relegation on the last day of the GPL
Accra Hearts of Oak have secured a place in the BetPawa Premier League for the 2022/23 season following a goalless draw with Berekum Chelsea at the Berekum Golden City Park.
Hearts of Oak, 2020/21 champions of the league could have been relegated to division one should they have lost against the Berekum Chelsea but managed to pick a point away from home and saved themselves from danger.
Before the game, the Phobians were sitting in 11th position with 45 points, just 3 points away from safety before the last game on Sunday, and their fate depended on the results to come from the last round of matches.
Accra Hearts of Oak are part of the clubs that have never been relegated since 1956 when the Ghanaian elite competition was instituted but their foundation of superiority was shaken only to be saved by the bell.
