Health Minister Pledges Crackdown on Unregistered Drugs in Pharmaceutical Market

Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has expressed deep concern over the growing influx of unregistered drugs into Ghana’s pharmaceutical market.

Minister Akandoh emphasized that the increasing presence of unapproved drugs poses serious risks to consumers, as their safety and efficacy cannot be guaranteed.
He assured the public that the government is working closely with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and other regulatory bodies to strengthen monitoring and enforcement measures.

He has vowed to take decisive action to curb their production and distribution to safeguard public health.
“We cannot allow unregulated drugs to flood our market and endanger the lives of Ghanaians. It is our responsibility to ensure that every drug available for sale meets the required safety standards,” he stated.

The Minister further outlined plans to crack down on manufacturers and distributors of unregistered medicines, promising stricter penalties for those found in violation of the law.
He also urged pharmaceutical companies and importers to comply with regulatory guidelines to maintain high standards within the industry.

Minister Akandoh reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing public health and ensuring that only certified and approved drugs are available on the market.
This move aligns with the government’s broader effort to improve healthcare standards in Ghana and protect citizens from substandard and counterfeit medications.

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious pharmaceutical products to the relevant authorities.
