Hamza Suhuyini Fires Back at NPP: Ghanaians Taught You a Lesson, But You Refuse to Learn

Private legal practitioner and a member of the NDC communication team, Hamza Sayibu Suhuyini, has taken a direct swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the opposition party of refusing to accept the lessons from their humiliating defeat in the 2024 elections.

In a strongly worded statement, Suhuyini said, “It is important for me to respond directly to the NPP. When they speak, I feel sorry for them. It is like the lesson the Ghanaian people wanted them to learn from their humiliating defeat is still being lost on them.”

According to him, instead of reflecting and seeking innovative ways to bounce back, the NPP is “digging themselves further” into false political statement through press conferences.

“In all our communications, we indicated clearly that even before COVID-19, the economy had shown serious signs of distress. We referenced the debt-to-GDP ratio which had climbed from about 53% to around 63% by 2020.”

“You increased public debt from about GH¢120 billion in 2016 to over GH¢256 billion. That is why we argue that this kind of economic recklessness made the country vulnerable. They shouldn’t hide behind COVID-19.”

Backing his claims, he cited statements by the World Bank Country Director, who had also acknowledged that Ghana’s economic problems predated the pandemic.

Private legal practitioner and a member of the NDC communication team, Hamza Sayibu Suhuyini, concluded that NPP MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin, alleging that during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), there were unethical practices.

“The likes of Afenyo-Markin were in charge of ECG as Board Chairman. Today, they are trying to bury their incompetence under the guise of ECG’s inefficiencies. They engaged in unethical awarding of contracts to cronies who even failed to deliver.”
