A member of the National Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamza Suhuyini, has weighed in on a statement issued by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), signed by its General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, over plans by the party’s national executives to remove former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, from the party.
The NPP’s reaction follows an interview granted by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng on Channel One Television on Monday, January 12, 2026, during which he described the party he belongs to as “fake.”
According to Hamza Suhuyini, the NPP leadership’s response did not come as a surprise. He said he has, on several occasions, received calls expressing concern that the current NPP has lost focus and direction. He argued that the party’s problems go beyond isolated comments by members and require deep structural changes.
He noted that the NPP must not only consider changing its national executive leadership but also review the leadership of Parliament, stressing that what currently exists at both the party and parliamentary levels represents a continuation of the failed legacies of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Until such changes are made, he said, the party should expect more public dissent from its own members.
Hamza further questioned the consistency of the NPP leadership, recalling that the same General Secretary recently issued a statement inviting previously dismissed party members to return in the spirit of unity. He found it contradictory that less than six months later, a senior party member raises concerns publicly and the immediate response is a statement suggesting that he should resign from the party.
According to him, any responsible leadership would have explored dialogue and engagement with Prof. Frimpong-Boateng as a respected elder of the party, rather than resorting to threats of expulsion. He described the NPP’s approach as intolerant of internal criticism and evidence of deeper leadership failures within the party.
