Gyan Urges Black Stars to Bring High-Intensity Performance Against Chad
Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has called on the Black Stars to approach their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad with unrelenting intensity, akin to facing a powerhouse like Brazil.
The two teams clash on Friday, March 21, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Ghana seeking a vital victory to propel them up the Group I standings. A win would set the Black Stars up nicely for their daunting away encounter with Madagascar in Morocco on March 24.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Gyan cautioned against underestimating opponents, citing the unpredictable nature of modern football. He drew from his personal experience, recalling Ghana’s shock defeat to Namibia during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Football has changed a lot,” Gyan warned. “You can’t just assume you’ll beat a team; they can surprise you. We need to start strong, get the fans behind us, and approach the game against Chad with the same intensity as if we were playing Brazil.”
Ghana currently sits second in Group I with nine points, just one point adrift of leaders Madagascar, who have played an additional match. With their World Cup qualification campaign hanging in the balance, the Black Stars are eager to bounce back from their disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
A strong performance against Chad would be a significant step towards redemption and reviving their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
