Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has issued an apology to residents affected by the ongoing water shortages in several areas, including Tamale, Bimbilla, Kasoa, and Ho. The company acknowledges the difficulties faced by communities and reiterates its commitment to restoring normal supply as soon as possible.
Severe Water Shortages
The water shortages have persisted for weeks, significantly disrupting daily activities. In Ho, the situation has become particularly dire, placing immense pressure on essential institutions such as hospitals and prisons. These institutions have been forced to seek alternative sources of water to maintain operations.
Restoration Efforts
Speaking to Channel One TV, GWCL Communications Manager Stanley Martey reassured residents that efforts are underway to resolve the crisis. He promised that the water supply in Ho would stabilize within a week and that the company is working tirelessly to normalize the situation across all affected areas.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused, but we are working around the clock to restore supply. By the end of the week, we expect the situation to improve within the municipality,” Martey stated.
Short-Term Solution
Martey revealed that a spare water pump had been treated and was on standby, with another expected to be installed by Thursday. “Having two standby pumps will serve as a short-term solution to this challenge,” he added.
Warning Against Water Theft
Martey also warned against water theft, stressing that such actions worsen the crisis for other residents. “We urge people to refrain from stealing water so that the limited supply can be distributed fairly. This will ensure that as many residents as possible have access to water and can sustain themselves during this difficult period,” he advised.
GWCL’s Commitment
GWCL remains committed to providing safe and reliable water supply to its customers. The company is working diligently to address the current water shortages and appreciates the patience and cooperation of affected residents.
