GSA Debunks GH¢6 Cement Price Hike Rumours

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has categorically denied viral reports claiming a GH¢6 increase in cement prices starting Monday, January 19, 2026.

In an official public notice, the GSA stressed that neither it nor the Cement Manufacturing Development Committee has approved any such hike. “The notice circulating about a GH¢6 price increment of cement on Monday, 19th January, 2026, is false,” the statement declared.

The committee, which includes GSA representatives, has made no decisions on price adjustments. Cement pricing continues to draw scrutiny in the industry, as firms budget for 2026 projects amid cooling inflation and cedi stability.

GSA warned the public against unverified claims that could spark market panic, urging reliance on its official channels for reliable updates. The notice was signed by Director-General Prof. George Agyei.

In related news, Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare will meet cement manufacturers later today to push for price cuts amid better economic conditions and tackle sector challenges.
