GPL Week14 Wrap: Lions Roar in Kpando, Kotoko win as Samartex Stumble

The Ghana Premier League produced yet another juicy action across all centres on Saturday as the season approach the Christmas season.

to open the weekend action on Friday night in a thrilling affair with Berekum Chelsea who were put to sword by the Phobians.

Asante Kotoko continued their recent fine form recording three straight wins including SUPER CLASH: Asante Kotoko Pip Hearts of Oak in Kumasi. after easing past Dreams FC 2-1 at the Tuba Astro Turf in Kasoa. Two quick first half goals from Baba Yaya in the 40th minute amd Saaka Dauda three minutes later ensured Kotoko pick up all the points to Kumasi. Eric Esso scored the only goal for the home side Dreams in the 58th minute but that was not enough for the ‘Still Believe’ boys.

A first half brace from Nafiu Sulemana and Barima Baah’s 65th minute goal secured a statement home win for in-form Nations FC in a 3-0 score against pale looked Legon Cities.

Nations have picked their 7th win of the season find the top places after 14 rounds of games with some 25 points just above Asante Kotoko.

First time meeting themselves in the Ghana Premier League, newcomers Young Apostles shared the spoils with Vision FC at the Wenchi Park in a pulsating 1-1 draw game. Abubakar’s  7th minute goal for the Apostles was canceled very late in the game by Vision’s Frimpong on the 93rd minute to pick a vital point away.

League leaders Hearts of Lions put up a spirited performance in Kpando making the most of Holy Stars. Nana Kwame Oppong got the opener in the first 11 minutes into the game for the host, Emmanuel Sakyi Ofori cushioned the lead 10minutes later and that was just okay for the first half. Agyei pulled one back for the visitors on the hour mark but their quest to bring the game to level pegging thrashed by roaring lions when Sakyi registered his brace in the 93th minute.

Bashiru Hayford’s side  are unbeaten in 7 consecutive league games with 6 wins, 1 draw and conceding only 1. They now lead the table with 27 points.

Defending Champions FC Samartex 1996 were piped narrowly away to Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. Dalvin Yeboah (Voted MoTM) got the only goal of the game in the 7th minute.

Samartex are now winless in six premier league games and sit in 10th position with 17 points

The Hunters have won their last five successive league games and are undefeated in their last nine games. That’s stunning.
