GPL Week 10: All Blacks hold Hearts of Oak in Swedru

In the opening fixture of match-day 10 in the Ghana Premier League, newcomers Newbies All Blacks delivered a resilient performance to secure a hard-fought 0-0 stalemate against the formidable giants, Hearts of Oak, at the Swedru All Blacks Park on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Both sides entered the contest with an intense hunger for victory, desperate to reignite their campaigns and climb the standings after recent inconsistencies, yet they were ultimately forced to share the spoils, each claiming a single point in a tense, cagey affair.

This result marks the second occasion this season that Hearts of Oak have been held to a goalless draw on their travels, extending their unbeaten streak away from home to five matches.

The Phobians threatened early with an incursion in the eighth minute, where Ransford Mensah threaded a precise pass to Hamza Issah in a promising position, but the forward’s subsequent effort was expertly blocked by the All Blacks defense, denying the visitors an immediate breakthrough.

The hosts nearly capitalized on a set-piece opportunity in the 19th minute, as Rudolf Mensah curled a dangerous free kick toward goal, only for Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi to produce a stunning save, diving acrobatically to keep the scores level.

Hearts of Oak suffered a significant setback in the dying moments of the first half when midfielder Hussein Mohammed was forced off the pitch following a reckless and nasty tackle. He was replaced by substitute Abdul Karim, disrupting the Phobians’ rhythm just before the interval.

The second half saw the Ozii Ozaa lads—Newbies All Blacks—emerge with renewed vigor and intensity, launching another threatening free-kick delivery that tested Agbasi once more.

The shot-stopper was equal to the challenge, parrying it away with authority. Just two minutes later, he repeated the heroics with another crucial intervention, thwarting All Blacks’ persistent pressure.

Hearts of Oak, by contrast, appeared visibly labored and out of sorts in the latter period, enduring wave after wave of attacks from the determined home side.

Despite coming under immense duress, the Phobians’ backline held firm, repelling every onslaught to preserve the clean sheet. The match concluded goalless, with neither team able to break the deadlock despite the opportunities created.

This draw extends Newbies All Blacks’ worrying winless streak to four games, leaving them languishing in 14th place on the league table with a mere 8 points accumulated so far. Their next challenge will be an away fixture against Dreams FC, where they will aim to arrest their slide.

For Hearts of Oak, the failure to secure all three points could see them tumble out of the top-four positions by the conclusion of the remaining match-day 10 fixtures, depending on results elsewhere. The Phobians will look to bounce back in their upcoming road trip to face Young Apostles.
