The Work and Housing Minister, Samuel Atta Kyea saids, government’s ability to absolve the cost of rent of distressed tenants will depend on its financial muscles.
Former President and Flagbearer of National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama has called on the Akufo -Addo’s government to place moratorium on the eviction of tenants who are unable to pay their rents due to challenge caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 in Ghana.
He called on government to consider a scheme to support tenant struggling to pay their rents and responding to this call.
The Work and Housings Minister , Samuel Atta Kyea said though government may have the financial muscles to support such tenant, such cases of massive eviction have not come to his attention.
He further added that the President has to deal with a very large and generous heart to pay water bills and has been taken for granted.
He said then, if someone should prove that people have been evicted as a direct result of COVID-19, government would have their rent paid.
