“Government Will Fully Support Churches Venturing into Agribusiness or Agriculture” – President Mahama Assures

Kumasi, Ghana – The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has praised churches for their critical role in driving social transformation across the country.

According to him, strengthening collaboration between the government and churches will lead to a more significant and lasting impact on national development.

Speaking at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) during the President’s Time of Fellowship and Thanksgiving with the Clergy in Kumasi, he emphasized the importance of this partnership.

“The church has always played a critical role in social transformation, and I believe that we can deepen this collaboration for an even more significant impact,” he said.

Encouraging Greater Church-Government Partnership

President Mahama acknowledged the remarkable contributions of churches in building schools and hospitals and encouraged stronger partnerships between churches, the government, and other stakeholders to expand these efforts.

“Churches have already done remarkable work in building schools and hospitals, and I encourage even greater partnership with government and other stakeholders to expand these efforts,” he stated.

He further highlighted income-generating projects, particularly in agriculture and agribusiness, as key areas where churches can partner with the government to drive economic transformation.

“And one area that I see this partnership can go is in income-generating projects, especially in agriculture and agribusiness. This is an area I believe the help of the church can help achieve economic transformation that we all desire,” he noted.

Government Support for Church-Led Agribusiness Initiatives

The President assured churches of the government’s full support should they choose to venture into agriculture or agribusiness as a means of generating income and creating jobs.

“And I wish to confirm that any church that decides to go into agribusiness or agriculture, government will be there to support you. This will help to provide income for the work of God, and at the same time, it will create opportunities for members of our congregation to be able to earn an income,” he said.

Church-Based Businesses and Job Creation

President Mahama emphasized that church-based businesses can play a crucial role in job creation by investing in enterprises that provide employment opportunities while upholding Christian values in business.

“Church-based businesses can contribute significantly to job creation by investing in enterprises that provide employment opportunities for members of their congregation while upholding Christian values in business. This will empower our people economically and reinforce ethical business practices in our society,” he stated.
