ACCRA, Ghana, 20th July: The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced government’s intention to expand access to medical education, drawing inspiration from the recent reforms introduced under the Legal Education Act, 2026.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 20, the Minister said the government is committed to widening opportunities for professional education to produce the skilled workforce required to drive Ghana’s long-term socio-economic development.
According to him, the planned reforms in medical education will mirror the approach adopted in the legal education sector, where policy changes have significantly broadened access to professional training.
Hon. Iddrisu stressed that increasing opportunities for aspiring medical professionals is critical to addressing the country’s healthcare workforce needs while ensuring that more qualified Ghanaians have the opportunity to pursue careers in medicine.
He noted that the initiative forms part of government’s broader agenda to strengthen human capital development by expanding access to quality professional education in key sectors, including health, law, science and technology.
The Education Minister also highlighted government’s efforts to improve funding for basic education through increased capitation grants and the timely release of funds to beneficiary schools.
