Reacting to pleas from some law lecturers and human rights activists that the borders must be opened for Ghanaians who are stuck abroad , he said, “i side with with government on not opening the borders now for any one until said date (31st May ) as stipulated in the President’s address on 10th May, 2020.
Professor Agyenim Boateng made this call in an interview with the host of COVID-19 WATCH Agyewodin Akosua Sakyibea on Ahotor92.3Fm on Monday May 18, 2020 .
Professor Kwame expressed his dismay and sympathy for those stuck and stranded in other countries due to the pandemic and described it as “Bad luck “ .
He further said opening of borders will increase the number of the spread .
It will be recalled that, some rappers from Ghana and business people who were unable to return to the country due to the halt of operations at the airport and borders during Covid-19 pandemic, are pleading with the government to open borders for at least 2 days so citizens can come back to their country.
“Ghanaians sometimes joke with certain things but this virus in question shouldn’t be something we have to joke with”, he reiterated.
Opening the land routes airport, borders will mismanage the whole situation. But if we could bring all citizens wanting to come at once and quarantine them for a while then I agree but if not, it will make controlling of the spread difficult “ he added.
