The deceased are believed to be illegal miners who became embroiled in the confrontation.
President John Dramani Mahama has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The President emphasized the need for accountability, vowing that anyone found culpable will face the full force of the law.
President Orders Swift Action
In a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, the government condemned the violence and reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law.
Support for Victims and Families
To provide relief to the affected families, the government has instructed AngloGold Ashanti, the company managing the mining site, to take responsibility for the medical expenses of the injured and assist in organizing dignified burials for the deceased.
Security Agencies to Restore Peace
The President has tasked the security agencies with restoring peace and order in the area and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences of such clashes.
Government’s Commitment
The government reassured Ghanaians that it is taking this matter seriously and remains committed to addressing the underlying issues surrounding illegal mining.
It also called on all stakeholders, including community leaders and mining companies, to work together to ensure safety, peace, and sustainable mining practices.
