The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka, has announced the lifting of curfews on Chereponi and Bunkpurugu, both located in the North East Region, with immediate effect.
This decision was made following the recommendation of the North East Regional Security Council (REGSEC), which indicated significant improvement in the security situation in the affected areas. A press release issued by the Ministry of the Interior on Friday, February 21, 2025, cited the commitment of the Chiefs and residents to maintain peace as a key factor influencing the government’s decision.
“Government continues to express its gratitude to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area and urges them to continue to resort to peaceful means in solving their problems,” the statement read.
The release further emphasized the government’s appreciation for the collaborative efforts that have contributed to restoring calm in the region. Authorities urged all stakeholders to remain committed to peaceful dialogue as a sustainable solution to any future conflicts.
