Government Introduces Three-Shift System to Reduce Passport Wait Times – Foreign Affairs Minister, Okudzeto Ablakwa

Ghana’s government has introduced a game-changing three-shift system to tackle the long wait times for passports. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that this new system will have staff working in morning, afternoon, and night shifts to process more applications daily and clear backlogs faster.

This move addresses the frustrating delays Ghanaians have faced for years, often waiting months for their passports due to high demand, limited personnel, and bureaucratic inefficiencies. The Minister acknowledged these challenges, stating that the new system will significantly reduce waiting times.

But that’s not all – the government is also taking additional measures to streamline services, including:

*- Expanding Passport Offices:* New offices will be opened in underserved regions to reduce congestion in major cities.

*- Upgrading Digital Infrastructure:* Online application processing will be enhanced to minimize human intervention and bureaucratic delays.

*- Increasing Staff Recruitment:* More staff will be hired to support the extended working hours.

*- Automating Key Processes:* Efficiency will be improved through automation.

*- Enhancing Security Features:* Passports will be made more secure to prevent fraud and counterfeiting.

While many Ghanaians have welcomed this new policy, some remain skeptical, urging the government to ensure strict implementation, transparency, and accountability. The success of this initiative depends on effective execution, adequate resources, and close monitoring in the coming months.
