The government has assured citizens that there will be no power outages as the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) embarks on a critical four-week shutdown of its gas pipeline in Tema.
Originally scheduled for October 2024, the maintenance work was postponed twice to allow the government to secure $89.9 million to fund alternative energy sources and prevent disruptions to the power supply.
Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has reassured the public that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure stable operations during the shutdown.
He emphasized that strategic planning, including increased reliance on alternative fuel sources and enhanced electricity generation, will prevent any power shortages.
The Energy Ministry, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has deployed backup energy solutions, including increased hydro and thermal generation, to mitigate the impact of the temporary gas supply interruption.
Citizens and businesses have been urged to remain calm as the government remains vigilant in ensuring energy security and stability throughout the maintenance period.
