Government Approves 9% Salary and Minimum Wage Increase for 2026

The government has approved a 9 per cent salary increase for all public sector employees under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the 2026 fiscal year. Similarly, the National Tripartite Committee agreed to raise the national daily minimum wage by 9 per cent, increasing it from GH₵19.97 to GH₵21.77, effective January 1 through December 31, 2026.

This agreement was signed on November 9, 2025, by the government—through the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF)—and Organised Labour, following successful negotiations aimed at promoting stability and fairness in the public sector.

Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson praised Organised Labour for their cooperation and patriotic stance, highlighting that the increase supports Ghana’s ongoing economic recovery. “Though the country faced challenging times with high inflation and interest rates, both have now declined. The government is committed to further reducing inflation from the current 8 per cent to lessen the burden on citizens,” he said.

Dr. Forson reaffirmed the government’s dedication to sustaining economic stability and improving workers’ conditions, assuring that the MoF and FWSC will oversee the full implementation of all approved measures.

Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo commended both parties for the constructive dialogue that led to the deal, calling it a testament to the government’s commitment to labour harmony and economic resilience.

FWSC CEO Dr. George Smith-Graham thanked Organised Labour for their support in the country’s recovery, recognizing their role in maintaining economic stability.

TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah acknowledged workers’ sacrifices in accepting the 9 per cent increase but urged the government to refrain from introducing new taxes or tariff hikes that might diminish these gains. He also called on the government to honour all commitments made to safeguard workers’ welfare.
