The Suame Interchange project in Kumasi is currently facing significant challenges, with only 13% of phase one completed. The main hurdle is the relocation of GWCL pipelines, which is delaying progress.
James Amoo-Gottfried, Director of the Department of Urban Roads, highlighted the issue, stating that discussions with Ghana Water are ongoing to find a solution.
Despite these challenges, the government is committed to completing the project. The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has assured the public that the government is actively addressing financial and logistical challenges.
President Mahama has also pledged to prioritize the completion of key projects in the Ashanti Region, including the Suame Interchange.
The Suame Interchange project aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in the area. Once completed, it will feature a four-tier interchange at the Suame Roundabout, as well as overpasses at several junctions.
Mr. Agbodza’s statement highlights the government’s dedication to overcoming obstacles and ensuring efficient progress on the project.
Despite funding constraints, with reallocated funds insufficient to cover all phases, the contractors have made notable progress, completing phase two and focusing on the critical phase one.
President Mahama’s commitment to completing critical projects is reassuring, and Mr. Agbodza’s plan to brief him on the current status and discuss securing necessary resources for completion is a positive step forward.
