Award-winning entertainment critic Derrick Manny Everywhere, known for his sharp industry analysis and fearless commentary, has stirred a major debate in the gospel music scene after boldly stating that traditional gospel music may fade away within the next five years if artistes fail to evolve.
Speaking on Ahotor Mmre with Obaapa Janee, Derrick Manny explained that the current generation of gospel listeners has shifted drastically from the tastes of the past.
With years of experience reviewing music, guiding talents, and contributing to multiple award schemes and media platforms, he drew on his deep industry knowledge to make a case for modernization.
According to Derrick Manny, the youth of today no longer resonate with the slow, strictly traditional gospel sound that once defined the genre. Instead, they are drawn to modern expressions—urban gospel, contemporary rhythms, Afro-gospel, and vibrant fusions that allow them to worship while still enjoying energetic beats.
“The youths today don’t understand gospel like those days. They prefer the modern gospel style with vibes and dancing,” he stressed.
He believes gospel artistes must adapt or risk losing relevance, urging them to fuse contemporary urban elements into their sound while still maintaining the spiritual message.
“If they don’t adjust themselves to the new trend, they will fade,” he cautioned.
With his history of accurately predicting industry shifts, his latest call serves as a strong reminder that the future of gospel music depends on those willing to innovate.
