GoldBod exceeds September FX target by US$471m, targets US$1.5bn in October

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) says it generated US$1.871 billion in foreign exchange in September 2026, exceeding its monthly target of US$1.4 billion by US$471 million.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, GoldBod said US$701.3 million of the foreign exchange generated was sold to authorised commercial banks, while US$1.170 billion was provided to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation.

The institution said the September performance follows the generation of US$1.315 billion in foreign exchange in August.

In August, GoldBod said it sold US$668.21 million directly to commercial banks through spot sales and funded forward arrangements, while US$646.59 million was provided to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation under the Gold for Reserves Accumulation Programme (GANRAP).

Looking ahead, GoldBod said it is targeting US$1.5 billion in foreign exchange for October 2026 under its new Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework.

According to the press release, the new framework is designed to strengthen transparency, fairness and regulatory compliance in foreign exchange intermediation.

GoldBod further announced that, effective October 2026, it will assume full responsibility for foreign exchange intermediation.

The institution said the new arrangement is intended to provide a more structured approach to foreign exchange sales while supporting foreign exchange availability and the accumulation of the country’s reserves.

GoldBod’s September foreign exchange generation represents a US$556 million increase over the US$1.315 billion recorded in August, based on figures contained in the institution’s press release.

The October target comes as GoldBod prepares to begin full responsibility for FX intermediation under the new framework.
