The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed as false and malicious claims circulating on social media that the proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, alleged to be the former bodyguard of GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the institution.
In a press release, GoldBod stated that the publication was entirely fabricated and deliberately intended to mislead the public. The Board stressed that Mr. Dominic Bonsu has never served as the bodyguard or personal security officer to GoldBod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, describing claims suggesting otherwise as completely false.
GoldBod further clarified that it has not lost or advanced GH¢200 million, or any amount of money, to Mr. Dominic Bonsu or Dominic Bonsu Ventures. According to the Board, the facts are that the operating licence of Dominic Bonsu Ventures was suspended over suspected breaches of the terms and conditions of its licence and the GoldBod Trading Directives, in accordance with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
The Board explained that following investigations and enforcement action, Mr. Dominic Bonsu was arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where he remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings.
GoldBod expressed concern over what it described as a deliberate attempt to distort an ongoing enforcement action, misinform the public and undermine confidence in its operations. It therefore urged the public to disregard the false claims and rely only on information issued through its official communication channels.
The Board also appealed to media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism. GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the laws governing Ghana’s gold trading sector fairly, transparently and professionally, without fear or favour.
