Joyce Bawa Mogtari, the spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate John Mahama, has expressed her belief that divine intervention is favoring the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to her, recent political developments, particularly the declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant, are clear signs that God is working in the party’s favor.
She pointed to the ruling by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, on October 17th, which officially declared the seats of four MPs vacant, as evidence of this.
The decision followed a petition from the NDC’s Minority side, seeking clarification on the actions of the four MPs who had violated parliamentary rules by filing to contest the upcoming December 2024 elections either as independent candidates or on the ticket of a different political party.
The MPs in question—Cynthia Mamle Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Peter Kwakye-Ackah (Amenfi Central), and Andrew Amoako Asiamah (Fomena)—were ruled to have vacated their seats based on Article 97 of the Constitution, which states that MPs who switch parties or run as independents automatically forfeit their current seats.
With these seats now vacant, the NDC has gained a slim majority in Parliament, holding 136 seats compared to the NPP’s 135.
This shift in parliamentary power, Madam Mogtari argues, is a clear sign that the NDC is not only gaining momentum but also receiving divine favor as it heads into the 2024 elections.
Speaking in Kpone during John Mahama’s tour of the Greater Accra Region, Madam Mogtari expressed her confidence that this change in the parliamentary majority is just the beginning of a larger victory for the NDC.
She emphasized that the party is on track to win the 2024 general elections and that recent events are a strong indication of the positive direction in which the party is headed.
