Give Lower-Tier Keepers a Chance – Bechem United Coach

Veteran coach Seth Osei Wire has called on Ghana’s national team selectors to consider goalkeepers from lower divisions and smaller Premier League clubs.

Wire’s plea follows an impressive performance by Bechem United’s goalkeeper Emmanuel Anning in their recent match against FC Sanmartex.

Wire believes talented keepers like Anning often go unnoticed due to their affiliation with less prominent clubs. “Keepers who don’t play for top teams are usually overlooked, but that’s not right,” he emphasized.

Wire advocates for giving deserving goalkeepers from smaller clubs a chance to shine in the national team.

“Even if a player is in the lower division and performing well, I believe they deserve a chance,” he said.

Wire’s call comes ahead of Ghana’s participation in the Unity Cup, a four-nation tournament scheduled for May 27-31, 2025.

Coach Otto Addo will soon announce his squad, and Wire hopes selectors will consider talented players from all levels.
