Ghana’s Public Debt drops to GH¢644.6 billion in November 2025

 

Ghana’s public debt fell by GH¢40 billion between September and November 2025, reaching GH¢644.6 billion—or about 45.5% of GDP.

In dollar terms, the total stood at US$57.2 billion in November, down from US$57.8 billion in October, but up from US$55.1 billion in September. Bank of Ghana data shows the debt hit GH¢630.2 billion in October 2025, following a sharp decline from GH¢768.4 billion (GH¢156.4 billion drop) between March and May 2025. It had been rising until October’s plunge.

External debt eased to US$29.3 billion in November (23.3% of GDP), lower than US$29.5 billion the prior month. Domestic debt also decreased to GH¢314.5 billion (22.2% of GDP) from GH¢317.6 billion in September.

On the fiscal front, November’s deficit-to-GDP ratio was 1.4%, with a primary surplus of 2.8% of GDP.
