Ghana’s Gold Production Poised to Surpass Five Million Ounces by 2025 – Chamber of Mines

Ghana is set to cement its status as a global gold powerhouse, with projections indicating the country’s gold production will exceed 5 million ounces in 2025. This ambitious forecast comes from the Ghana Chamber of Mines, riding on the back of a remarkable recovery in the sector.

After a challenging period, Ghana reclaimed its title as Africa’s leading gold producer in 2023, fueled by a 32% surge in domestic output. Gold production jumped to 3.7 million ounces, up from 2.8 million ounces in 2021, underscoring the resilience and potential of the mining sector.

Ahmed Dasana Nantogmah, the Acting CEO of the Chamber, highlighted the importance of strategic policies such as the government’s Goldbod initiative, aimed at bolstering foreign exchange reserves and promoting macroeconomic stability.

“Goldbod, as it stands, is a promising initiative. On paper, its functions are designed to support the sector effectively, and we at the Chamber are actively involved with representation on its board,” Nantogmah stated. He emphasized that the partnership between the Chamber and the government seeks to create a sustainable mining ecosystem, particularly as small-scale miners contribute approximately 40% of the country’s gold output.

“This collaborative effort will not only enhance foreign exchange earnings but also support broader economic stability,” he noted.

Looking ahead, Nantogmah expressed optimism about Ghana’s future in gold mining. “Our projections are clear—by 2025, we are looking at gold production in excess of 5 million ounces,” he said, speaking on the sidelines of the 2025 West African Mining and Power Expo in Accra

This ambitious trajectory reflects a strategic focus on innovation, sustainability, and leveraging the strengths of small-scale mining. Ghana’s mining sector is set to drive economic growth and solidify its global standing as a leader in gold production.
