Ghana’s Constitution is useless – Odike

Leader and founder of the United Progressive Party ( UPP) has said that the country’s 1992 constitution has outlived it usefulness.

Stating this on Adekye Mu Nsem breakfast show with host Kofi Citizen . The leader of UPP noted that a sitting President wields so much power and has resulted in the abuse of office by the President amidst state capture.

He explained that the checks and balances as enshrined in the constitution no longer works and the state seem to be in auto pilot.

He mention that, there seem to be lack of political will to fulfil the Ghana dream since the institutional frame mechanisms needed to build the structures of the country have been sidelined by self seeking personalities in politics.

The 2016 Presidential candidate remark further that Successive regimes have all belittled the necessity to continue with the constitutional review process began by late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills of blessed Memory. Similarly he observed the country is bleeding profusely due to gross incompetence and incumbency abuse by political actors.

Mr. Akwasi Addae called on stakeholders and government to reconstitute a team to review the 1992 constitution to make way for proper inclusion in the governance system of the nation.

He chastised the former President John Mahama administration for showing lack of disinterest in the continuation of the amendment process which was actively occasioned by late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.

Several pressure and society organisations have labelled the 1992 constitution as rusty and uninspiring due to conflicts in observations in the functional requirements and provisions of the country’s governance sovereign manual.
