Ghana’s Black Damsels Gear Up to Defend CAF African Schools Football Championship Title in Maputo

Defending champions Ghana’s U15 girls’ team, affectionately known as the Black Damsels, are actively gearing up to defend their title at the upcoming CAF African Schools Football Championship finals.

The squad earned their crown in the 2025 edition, hosted in Accra, Ghana, where they delivered an impressive and unbeaten campaign that culminated in a historic maiden continental triumph for the nation in the girls’ category.

Their journey to the 2025 title showcased remarkable consistency and attacking flair right from the group stage. As tournament hosts, the Black Damsels kicked off with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Morocco, courtesy of a decisive goal from Jennifer Awuku.

They followed that up with a solid 2-0 win against Benin and sealed top spot in their group with a commanding 3-0 success over Malawi, maintaining a clean sheet throughout the phase and building strong momentum.

In the semifinals, Ghana faced a stern test from South Africa, the defending champions at the time, in a thrilling encounter that ended 3-2 in favor of the Black Damsels. This dramatic victory secured their place in the final and highlighted their resilience under pressure.

The grand finale saw them overcome Uganda with a convincing 2-0 win at the University of Ghana Stadium, with second-half goals from Belinda Kpentey and Daniella Abass sealing the deal in front of an ecstatic home crowd.

The triumph marked Ghana’s first title in the competition’s girls’ edition and underscored the rapid rise of women’s youth football in the country.

Now, carrying the pride of that achievement and the weight of defending champion status, the Black Damsels enter the next edition with high confidence and expectations to repeat their success.

The tournament is set to take place in Maputo, the vibrant capital of Mozambique, from April 2 to April 10, 2026. Organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), this prestigious event will unite top school-based youth talents from across the continent in both boys’ and girls’ categories, providing an exciting platform for these emerging stars to compete at the highest level and showcase their skills on the international stage.
